Online Ledger Maker

Keep a ledger for a customer, supplier, bank account or your own cash: start with the opening balance, add each entry with its date, description, debit and credit, and the running balance updates as you type. Download it as a PDF or an Excel file, or print it. Everything stays in your browser.

Statement for a period (optional)

Leave empty for the whole ledger. With dates, the PDF, print and Excel show only that period, starting from the balance brought forward.

Import, backup and restore

CSV import understands columns named Date, Description (or Particulars, Narration, Details), Ref (or Voucher), Debit (or Dr, In, Received) and Credit (or Cr, Out, Paid), or one signed Amount column. Your ledgers are saved only in this browser on this device: download a backup now and then, and restore it on another computer.

How the running balance works

The balance starts at the opening balance. Every debit is added and every credit is taken away, line by line, so each row shows the balance after that entry. A balance marked Dr means the debits are larger: in a customer's ledger the customer owes you; in your own cash or bank book it is the money you have. A balance marked Cr means the credits are larger: in a supplier's ledger you owe them. If you find "debit" and "credit" confusing, switch the column names to In / Out or Received / Paid: the arithmetic stays the same (In and Received raise the balance).

How to use the ledger maker

  1. Type the ledger name (the customer, supplier or account) and, if you like, details such as phone or address for the PDF.
  2. Enter the opening balance, choose Dr or Cr, and optionally its date.
  3. Add each entry: date, description, a reference or voucher number, and the amount in the debit or the credit column. Press Enter in the last box to start the next line.
  4. Click Download PDF for a clean A4 statement, Download Excel for an .xlsx file whose balance column is made of real formulas, or Print.

For a monthly statement, fill in the From and To dates. The statement then starts with the balance brought forward (the opening balance plus every entry before the From date) and lists only the entries in that period.

Saving, privacy and more than one ledger

The ledgers are saved automatically in your browser's storage on this device; nothing is sent to a server, so we never see your figures. Keep one ledger per customer, supplier or account and switch between them with the list at the top. Because browser storage can be cleared (private windows, cleaning tools, a new computer), download a backup file from time to time. The backup restores every ledger on any computer.

Descriptions in Urdu, Arabic and other languages

Descriptions can be written in any language. The PDF writes Urdu in Nastaliq, Arabic in Naskh and Hindi, Bengali and other scripts with matching open fonts, with the letters joined and in the right direction. Excel and print show them with the fonts on your computer.

Ledger, cash book or bank statement?

A ledger is the record of one account. A cash book is simply the ledger of your cash, and a bank statement is the bank's ledger of your account (from the bank's side, so its Dr and Cr are reversed). This tool works for all three: use In / Out for a cash book. To check a bank statement, enter the bank's figures and compare the closing balance.

FAQ

Is this online ledger free and private?
Yes. It is free with no sign-up, and the entries are kept only in your own browser. Nothing is uploaded; the PDF and Excel files are made on your device.
How is the running balance calculated?
Balance = opening balance + debits - credits, worked out after each entry. A positive result is shown as Dr and a negative one as Cr.
Can I download the ledger as Excel?
Yes. The .xlsx file has the dates as real dates, the amounts as numbers and the balance column as formulas (previous balance + debit - credit), so you can keep working in Excel or Google Sheets.
Can I make a statement for one month only?
Yes. Fill in the From and To dates. The statement starts with the balance brought forward and lists only the entries in that period, with totals for the period.
Will my ledger still be there tomorrow?
Yes, in the same browser on the same device, unless the browser storage is cleared. Download a backup file regularly; you can restore it on any computer.
Can I write descriptions in Urdu or Arabic?
Yes. The PDF writes Urdu, Arabic and other languages correctly joined and right to left.
