The amount is…

The two formulas

  • Add VAT to a net price: VAT = price × rate ÷ 100. Total = price + VAT. 1,000 SAR + 15% = 1,150 SAR.
  • Take VAT out of a total that already includes it: VAT = total × rate ÷ (100 + rate). 1,150 SAR includes 1,150 × 15 ÷ 115 = 150 SAR VAT, so the net price is 1,000.

The common mistake is taking 15% of the total: 15% of 1,150 is 172.50, which overstates the VAT by 22.50. Use the "with VAT" option for receipts and totals.

Invoices in Saudi Arabia

A VAT-registered business in Saudi Arabia issues electronic invoices (FATOORA) that show the net amount, the VAT and the total, with the VAT number of the seller. Round each line to two decimals, then add the lines; rounding only the final total can make the VAT on the invoice differ by a halala from the sum of the lines.

FAQ

How do I calculate 15% VAT in Saudi Arabia?
Multiply the price without VAT by 0.15 to get the VAT, or by 1.15 to get the total. To find the VAT inside a total, multiply the total by 15 and divide by 115.
How do I remove VAT from a price?
Divide the price by (1 + rate). For 15%: 1,150 ÷ 1.15 = 1,000 without VAT; the difference, 150, is the VAT.
Is the calculator right for UAE 5%?
Yes. Pick United Arab Emirates and the rate switches to 5%. 1,050 AED including VAT contains 50 AED VAT.
Does this send my numbers anywhere?
No. The calculation happens in your browser.
