Which rate is this?

The converter uses a daily reference rate: one mid-market price per currency, updated once a day. It is the rate you see in the news and the one most invoices and price comparisons use. When you actually change money, a bank, card or exchange shop gives you a slightly worse rate and keeps the difference, usually 0.5% to 3%, sometimes more at airports.

So use the result to know what a price is worth, to check a quote, or to fill in an invoice. Before you send a large transfer, compare the final amount the provider shows you with the figure here; the gap is their margin.

Pegged Gulf currencies

The Saudi riyal is fixed to the US dollar at 3.75 riyals per dollar, and the UAE dirham at 3.6725. Qatar (3.64), Bahrain (0.376) and Oman (0.3845) are pegged too. That is why SAR to AED barely moves, and why converting a Gulf salary to dollars always gives almost the same result. The Kuwaiti dinar follows a basket of currencies instead, so it moves a little.

Sending money home

For riyal to rupee transfers (Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Nepal, the Philippines), the exchange rate and the fee both matter. A transfer with no fee but a weak rate can cost more than one with a small fee and a good rate. Work out what the receiver gets in rupees with this converter, then compare it with what each app or exchange house promises for the same riyal amount.

Where the rates come from

Rates are provided by ExchangeRate-API's free open data, fetched by our server a few times a day and stored, so the page stays fast. The time of the last update is shown under the result. They are for information; for a legal or tax figure, use the rate your bank or tax authority requires (in Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Central Bank rate for SAR).

FAQ

How many riyals is 1 US dollar?
3.75 Saudi riyals. The riyal has been pegged to the dollar at this rate since 1986, so it does not change day to day.
How do I convert SAR to PKR?
Choose SAR in From and PKR in To and type the amount. The table shows common amounts like 100, 500 and 1,000 riyals.
Why does my bank give a different rate?
Banks and exchange shops add a margin on top of the reference rate. The difference is their fee.
How often are rates updated?
Once a day from the source; our server refreshes its copy every few hours.
