PDF to Excel Converter

Pull the tables out of a PDF report, price list or statement into Excel columns you can sort, filter and add up. Numbers become real numbers, not text. It works on PDFs that contain real text, and says so clearly when a PDF is a scan.

How the columns are found

A PDF has no real table inside it, only pieces of text placed at exact positions. The converter reads every piece with its position and puts the pieces of the same line into one row. Then it looks at all the lines that have several separate pieces and finds the vertical strips of white space they have in common: those strips are the column edges. Each piece goes into the column it sits in, so a right-aligned amount column stays one column even when the numbers have different lengths.

Numbers that Excel can add up

Copying from a PDF usually gives you numbers as text, which SUM ignores. Here they are converted on the way in:

In the PDFIn Excel
1,234.501234.5, shown as 1,234.50
(250) or 250--250 (accounting negatives)
12.5%0.125, shown as 12.5%
$99.90 or SAR 1,20099.9 or 1200, with the currency kept in the number format
00123, 12/10/2026, 1.234,56Kept as text (IDs, dates and European decimals are not guessed)

If you would rather keep everything exactly as text, untick "Turn ... into real numbers".

Limits you should know

  • Scanned PDFs contain pictures of numbers, not text, so there is nothing to read without OCR. The tool tells you instead of producing an empty sheet.
  • Cells that wrap onto two lines in the PDF (a long description) become two rows. Join them in Excel if needed.
  • Merged headings and borders are not recreated; titles and notes above the table go into column A.
  • Pages with two tables side by side may share columns. Check the result against the PDF before you rely on it.

Bank statements, invoices and payroll reports

Statements and reports exported from banking, accounting or HR software are usually text PDFs and convert well: dates stay as text in their own column, amounts become numbers, and you can add a SUM row or a filter straight away. Choose "Everything in one sheet" for a statement that runs over many pages, so all transactions are in one list; the page headers that repeat on each page will appear between the rows and are easy to filter out. To go the other way, from a spreadsheet to a print-ready PDF, use Excel to PDF.

Privacy

The PDF is read by pdf.js in your browser and the .xlsx file is written on your device. Statements and salary reports are never uploaded. We count only that a PDF was converted and roughly how many pages it had, never the file name or any numbers in it.

FAQ

How do I convert a PDF table to Excel for free?
Choose the PDF, keep the default options and press Convert to Excel. Download the .xlsx file and open it in Excel, Google Sheets or LibreOffice.
Will the numbers work in formulas?
Yes. Amounts such as 1,234.50, (250) and 12% are stored as real numbers with a matching number format, so SUM and filters work.
Can it convert a scanned PDF to Excel?
No. A scan has no text inside, only pictures; that needs OCR. The tool tells you when a PDF is a scan instead of giving you an empty file.
Can I put all pages in one sheet?
Yes. Choose "Everything in one sheet" before converting; a blank row separates the pages.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser; the file never leaves your device.
