PDF to Word Converter
Get the text of a PDF back into Word so you can edit it: paragraphs are re-joined, headings and bold text are kept, and columns become tab stops. It works on PDFs that contain real text (made from Word, Excel or a website), and it tells you plainly when a PDF is a scan.

What this converter does, and what it does not
A PDF does not store paragraphs. It stores pieces of text and the exact place on the page where each piece is drawn. To get an editable Word file back, the converter reads every piece with its position, font and size, puts the pieces on the same line together, joins lines into paragraphs, recognises headings from their larger or bold type, and writes a normal .docx file you can edit, restyle and re-flow.
| Works well | Not supported (be aware) |
|---|---|
| PDFs exported from Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice or a website | Scanned PDFs and photos of pages (no text inside: needs OCR) |
| Letters, contracts, reports, policies, articles, CVs | Pictures, logos, charts and drawings (not copied) |
| Headings, bold, italic, font sizes, centred lines | Table borders and cell shading (columns become tab stops) |
| Arabic and Urdu text (right-to-left paragraphs) | Text boxes and multi-column magazine layouts (read in line order) |
If the PDF is a scan, the tool says so and does not hand you an empty Word file. For a scan, use a tool with OCR (text recognition). A free option: upload the PDF to Google Drive, right-click it and choose Open with โ Google Docs. If the PDF is mainly a table of numbers, PDF to Excel gives you real columns instead of tabs.
How to convert a PDF to Word
- Choose the PDF. The number of pages is shown.
- Keep "Start each PDF page on a new page" ticked to keep the page breaks, or untick it to get one continuous document.
- Press "Convert to Word" and download the .docx file. Open it in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice Writer.
Checking the result
Read the Word file next to the PDF before you send it on. Things to look at: a line that should have been a heading but came out as normal text (apply a Heading style in Word), a list item joined to the line above it, and label-and-value rows such as "Name ... Amount", which are placed on tab stops so they line up. Headers and footers in the PDF, such as page numbers, appear as normal lines at the top or bottom of each page; delete them if you do not need them.
Why the layout is simpler than the PDF
Converters that copy the exact look of a PDF usually do it by placing every line in its own frame or text box. The Word file then looks identical but is very hard to edit: adding one sentence does not push the rest of the text down. This tool chooses the opposite: a plain, flowing document that is easy to edit, with the formatting that matters (headings, bold, sizes, alignment) kept. For an exact visual copy, convert the pages to images with PDF to JPG.
Privacy
The PDF is read by pdf.js (Mozilla's PDF engine) inside your browser and the Word file is created on your device. Nothing is uploaded. We count only that a PDF was converted and roughly how many pages it had, or that it was a scan, never the file name or its text.
