Split PDF

Take the pages you need out of a PDF, or cut a long file into smaller ones. The pages are copied exactly as they are, so text stays searchable and nothing is re-compressed. The file never leaves your device.

Four ways to split a PDF

ModeExampleResult
Extract pages1-2, 7One PDF with pages 1, 2 and 7, in that order
Split by ranges1-3, 4-10, 11-Three PDFs: pages 1-3, 4-10 and 11 to the end
Every N pages2A 10-page file becomes five 2-page PDFs
Every page-One PDF per page

When the result is more than one file you can download them one by one or all together as a ZIP.

Writing page ranges

Separate pages and ranges with commas. 5 is one page, 3-8 is pages 3 to 8, 9- means page 9 to the last page and -4 means the first four pages. In "Extract pages" mode the pages appear in the order you type them and a page you list twice is only included once.

Common jobs

  • Send only the signed page of a contract: Extract pages, type the page number.
  • An email or portal limit of a few MB: Split by ranges or every N pages, then send the parts. If one page is still too big (usually a scan), shrink it with the PDF compressor.
  • One payslip or invoice per employee or customer: if each one is a single page, choose Every page; if each is two pages, choose Every N pages with 2.
  • Put the parts back together in another order: split first, then join them with Merge PDF, or use Rotate & reorder PDF pages to change the order inside one file.

What is kept

Each page is copied with its text, images, fonts, size and rotation, so the new files look exactly like the original pages and their text can still be searched and copied. Bookmarks, form fields that span several pages and document-level attachments are not carried over, which is the same with most split tools. A PDF that asks for a password to open has to be unlocked first: open it with the password in your PDF reader and save an unprotected copy.

Privacy

Splitting is done by pdf-lib, an open-source library running in your browser. The PDF is not uploaded anywhere; we only count that a file was split and roughly how many pages it had.

FAQ

How do I extract one page from a PDF?
Choose the PDF, keep "Extract pages" selected, type the page number and press Split PDF. You get a new one-page PDF.
Can I split a PDF into separate files for each page?
Yes. Choose "Every page" and download the pages one by one or all together as a ZIP file.
Does splitting reduce the quality?
No. Pages are copied as they are, without re-compressing images or turning text into pictures.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The split happens in your browser; the file never leaves your device.
